Agrimetrics partners with Airbus to reduce cost of satellite-based crop analytics

Crop Analytics, a crop and field analytics package from Airbus, is now available at a new, lower price. The industry leading agronomic data suite is available now via Agrimetrics Agrifood Data Marketplace. Sign-up to launch webinar.

Airbus Crop Analytics uses state-of-the-art algorithms to derive 15 crop and field properties from satellite data. Outputs are clipped to fields, accurately de-clouded, and updated every few days. Agrimetrics then pre-links Crop Analytics to billions of additional agricultural and climate data points, creating one of the industry’s most advanced field digital twins.

Agronomic applications are wide-ranging, with the service providing both in-season crop monitoring and historic data. Crop lodging, which costs the UK farming sector up to £170m per year, can be reliably predicted and managed. Warning systems could be developed that identify poorly performing zones earlier in the season. Irrigation, seeding, fertilisation, and crop protection can all be optimised. Agrimetrics have used the data to make accurate crop classifications, harvest timing and yield predictions.

Airbus crop analytics have a broad range of applications, including reducing crop lodging risk, optimising irrigation and input applications, and in-season crop scouting.

“We know that Crop Analytics is a valuable resource for the sector,” says Matthew Smith, Chief Product Officer at Agrimetrics. “However, adoption of satellite data across the sector has been slower than many predicted. Agrimetrics are delighted to be able to offer Crop Analytics through our Data Marketplace. We hope that this will make these data and insights accessible to a far broader range of agrifood organisations.”

Crop Analytics contains 15 attributes, including: Leaf Area Index (LAI), Leaf Water Content, Leaf Chlorophyll Content, fCover (used for identifying OSR), Brown Vegetation Cover, NDVI, and Soil Water Saturation. These data can be used to generate a range of actionable insights, from anomaly detection and yield prediction to water stress and field benchmarking.

It can be accessed through the Agrifood Data Marketplace, the UK’s most advanced source of analysis-ready food and farming data. Available data includes: climate and weather data optimised for agriculture; pesticide and fertiliser application maps (CEH); soil data; a range of natural capital and biodiversity indications (Environment Agency, Natural England); and remote sensing data, including cloud-free NDVI (ClearSky).
